The original MGB V8 air filters mount on small brackets to the cylinder head. The devices to the front of the air filters are thermostatic flaps which direct air either from the exhaust manifolds or the engine bay. Carburetor icing does not seem to be a problem with MGB V8 engines without these heat exchangers fitted.
