The original MGB V8 gearbox looked similar to the 1800cc gearbox. The major differences were the bellhousing shape, overdrive available only on 4th gear, and altered gear ratios reducing the gap between 2nd and 3rd gears. Because they were based on the MGB gearbox they can't cope with a great deal of power or torque. In particular the layshaft is prone to breaking. This one is painted black to improve cooling, although the original finish was natural aluminium.
